Products must not have any generally sensitising or irritant characteristics, components or accessories.
Under the Allergy Label criteria, vacuum cleaners must meet the requirements for classes A-C for cleaning performance under the Ecodesign limits in force up to 31.12.2018 (EU classes A-G). The cleaning performance on a hard floor must meet the requirements for A class, and on carpets or mats at least the requirements for C class. The dust pick-up on carpet (dpuc) figures are in that case A: 1.11, B: 0.91-0.87 and C: 0.87-0.83. Dust re-emission is to be class A (0.02%). The rated input power according to legislative provisions is to be less than 1600W. In addition, the filtration capacity is to be measured with a small particle size, i.e. at least 0.3 microns.
The nozzle design must be such that it is easy to clean even poorly accessible places, such as underneath cabinets and wardrobes. The user manual for the product must include clear instructions on the correct use, care and maintenance of the device. If the vacuum cleaner has a dust bag, it must be possible to seal the mouth of the bag. For bagless devices, clear instructions must be provided on emptying the dust chamber. The technical specifications must include the sound power level of the device. The technical characteristics of the device, such as suction power and filtration capacity, must be documented by results from impartial testing.
