The Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation
The Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation is a nationwide organisation for patients and public health.
Working with our member associations, our mission is to improve the quality of everyday life and social rights for people with allergies, asthma, various skin conditions, and severe burn injuries, and we support their friends and relatives.
We produce and distribute the latest information on preventing illnesses, supporting self-care and promoting well-being. We are working towards a safe living environment, nature and health, and healthy lifestyles.
How we make a difference
The Federation advocates for its members’ interests locally, nationally and internationally. The main forms of advocacy are lobbying during the drafting of laws, publishing initiatives and reports, and engaging in public debate.
Collaboration with various networks of associations and authorities is an important part of the Federation’s activities.
The key venue for influencing national decision-making is the Finnish Parliament’s allergy and asthma network, which the Federation works closely with. The Federation is also involved in thematic networks maintained by SOSTE Finnish Federation for Social Affairs and Health, the umbrella organisation for social welfare and health care associations.
Allergy Label®
The Allergy Label is a symbol that helps consumers choose fragrance-free products that fulfil anti-allergy criteria. It is awarded by the Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation in cooperation with external experts and researchers. Read more on the Allergy Label website.
Nature and health
Since the 1980s, the Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation has conducted research at the South Karelian Institute of Allergies and the Environment. The institute’s Centre of Excellence for Nature and Health specialises in nature and health.
“Nature and health” refers to the positive effects of nature on physical and mental health and well-being. Contact with nature’s diverse microbiota promotes a balanced immune defence and protects against asthma, allergies and other inflammatory illnesses.
